I have found that our near-ancient temperate rainforest oaks are like mini-universes.
Each layer in this experimental print is built to reveal their richness, from gold-toned metallics to verdant greens, metaphors for the immense value and precious elements that these trees contain. The layered, pigmented filler I use is sculpted to mimic the moses that shroud the branches, which is then sanded and then printed over multiple times.
The tree in question here is located in Bovey Valley Woods, on the southeastern corner of Dartmoor. Here, the diligent work of the Woodland Trust and other partners and conservationists is not only looking to preserve and maintain these incredible habitats, but also to hopefully see them expand further up towards the moor itself.
