Combining a growing confidence in Photoetching & a full embracing my subject matter, my graduate work reflected deeply on the passing of my Father using site-specific photography, texts & musical score (all originally created by my Father.), fixed within triptych layout to purvey both narrative & a filmic passage of time.

These were all 2 plate etchings, with the photographic plate rendered first, with the colour Relief, & the subsequent plate having the text/score/drawn elements within.  The work was heavily informed by the later works of Philip Guston, on whom I wrote my supporting Thesis.

Once I returned to printmaking several years later I explored further musings on the passage of time & started to reflect on wider human behaviour, our place in the Environment, & more personal elements with regard to my confidence or otherwise in the World…

I started to really trust myself as an Artist following a Residency in Cork in 1998, which allowed me to devote the necessary time to my continued learning & Output. From here both the Scale and content began to evolve, climaxing in 1999 with the creation of ‘Pondlife’ (see top of the page.).

All of the Images below are in chronological order, from the Graduate etchings through to the Cork etchings & monoprints….
