This is the third of a mini-series of 4 prints of Monterrey Pines near Froward Point which were destroyed by fire. I used masking fluid in all of these to bring out the craquelure of the charred trunks and tried to push them more into the foreground by ‘knocking back’ the background with some translucent whites [I found the marks/colours to be too ‘decorative’ here, and distracted from the beauty of the dead trees].   while the original photos were taken on a blindingly sunny winter’s day I felt that it was best to translate the feeling of the cold rather than the light.
