‘Stump #238’ is another Monterey Pine situated in Brownstone over the river from Dartmouth in Devon/UK. I think this has a lovely visual echo from one of the prints I did for the Ojai Commission last year, ‘Ojai #31’ [Ojai #31, Monoprint, 30cm x 36cm – Stewart Taylor Prints], and in turn describes the link between naturalised/invasive trees & introduced pathogens (like Ash Dieback & Dutch Elm Disease here in the UK, and Sudden Oak Death in California.)
Monterey Pines have been thriving in the mild, Coastal conditions here since being introduced some 200 years ago from the West coast of the USA; they grow & reach maturity very rapidly; they are often destroyed by fire within 80/90 years to enable their seeds to be released, germinate, and provide the nutrients for future generations.
