Stumps #223 & #224 are the 2nd pair of Monterey Pines that I have done; these are from nearby Brownstone (FYI this is just East of the river from Dartmouth/Devon/UK), & both of which were burnt to a crisp. These Trees have massive Cones which have to be opened by fire in order for the seeds to be released & subsequently germinate.
They have been thriving in the mild, Coastal conditions here since being introduced some 200 years ago from the West coast of the USA; they grow & reach maturity very rapidly, returning to humus within 80/90 years (where they then break down even quicker than they grow) to provide the nutrients for the next generations.

Prints can be custom-framed at cost price here in Dartmouth on request.
Smaller prints are flat-packed, while larger works are carefully rolled and shipped in sturdy tubes. Packaging is protective and largely plastic-free.

For full visibility, I just open that Stewart is a dear friend of mine, and had been for many years.
Over that time, I’ve witnessed his passion for the community and environmental subject matter he works with.
I love the textual details of the bark, the monumental sense of the tree, yet also the bursts of colour that add the extra eye-catching appeal amongst my many black and white photos.
I have, if not quite a wing, but certainly a growing collection of ‘Taylors’ – not just stumps but also Dartmouth coves and some more industrial London scenes, as well as one with a mouse drinking a pint (too complex to explain) – and have so enjoyed being privileged to see his work at the RA Summer Exhibition and the Woolwich Print Fair, amongst others.
